Indoor Play

Barrington Area Library | Barrington, IL

With cooler days ahead of us, I’ve been brainstorming different activities that we can do as a family to burn some energy and get out of the house. Today, I thought I’d share with you one of our very favorite spots to read some great books and get some exercise.

Barrington Area Library

The Barrington Area Library is toddler/preschooler heaven! I remember when H was born this was the only place I felt confident enough to take a toddler and a newborn.  There is so much to do and it is very manageable if you have multiple children.  This interactive space should be at the top of your go-to list this fall and winter.

Some of the activities include:

A fun little place to get creative in the library!

Pretend Marketplace/Playhouse

LEGO room

A LEGO lover’s paradise! Legos cover every wall in this room! We had so much fun in here!

Does it really get any better than a slide inside of a library? I doubt it!!

Lite Bright Wall

How cool is the lite bright wall? This is a great, hands-on way to work on colors, letters and shapes!

Digital Pond

The Digital Pond is so much fun, especially for really little ones.  Watch the fish swim away as your littles approach them. So cool!

It really is an amazing place that is begging for exploration.  We typically spend a whole morning here. They even provide cafeteria style tables that you can have a snack at if you wish.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Feel free to bring snacks or lunches. There are a couple of cafeteria style tables that you can claim if you get there early enough.
  • There is a very nice, clean bathroom for use in the children’s area that includes a changing table.

Visit the Barrington Area Library’s website to check for special programs and events.

  1. If our library was anywhere close to as cool as this we would go every single day! I have gone a few times, specifically to the baby and me story times to try and meet new mama friends, but my little one just tries to eat all the books. I am super jealous of this incredible library that you have so close to you!

  2. This looks amazing! I love going to the library but sometimes I feel my children get too rambunctious after 30 minutes. A library like this would give them something to do while I enjoyed the atmosphere!
